If this delicate process isn’t handled correctly it can have long-lasting negative implications for everyone involved. On the other hand, if it is handled well it can encourage growth and development.
- Be open when having these conversations, maintain eye contact. This will help create a sense of trust.
- Be mindful of your body language. Don’t lean forward. Try to stay centred.
- Choose your words carefully. Be direct, speak objectively and explain why the issue matters to you.
- Listen to their perspective and be open to having your own view changed.
- Help them find a solution to the issue. Have regular check ins to see how they are doing and once you both feel the issue has been resolved celebrate the success.
